Ninewells Hospital Lorraine Warden was working at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee

A woman has appeared in court accused of embezzling more than £72,000 from a hospital research fund.

Lorraine Warden, 43, is alleged to have scammed the cash over a four-year period while working at Ninewells Hospital and Dundee University.

Dundee Sheriff Court heard how Ms Warden, from Dundee, was working as a secretary at the time.

She made no plea or declaration and was released on bail. The case was continued for further examination.

Ms Warden is alleged to have taken the money between 1 January 2007 and 31 August 2012 at Ninewells Hospital.

She was employed as a secretary by Dundee University and was assisting with the management of Tayside Otolaryngology Fund.

It is alleged the money was taken from a fund set up to help research into ear, nose and throat conditions.

The Tayside Otolaryngology Fund ceased to operate in November last year.
