Driver, 85, killed in two-car crash near Dundee

An 85-year-old man has died following a two-car collision on the A90 north of Dundee.

Emergency services were called at 13:42 after the collision between a Skoda and a Seat near the Petterden slip road.

The 85-year-old man driving the Skoda was trapped in his car and cut free by firefighters.

A trauma team took him by ambulance to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police said he would not be named until next of kin had been notified and formal identification had taken place.

The 71-year-old woman driving the Seat car was also taken by ambulance to Ninewells, where she was treated for minor injuries.

Both lanes of the southbound carriageway were closed to allow crash investigators to work at the scene. Traffic was being diverted at the Petterden junction.

Anyone who witnessed the collision has been asked to contact police.
