Teacher Bernadette Smith admits sexual activity with schoolboy

A former teacher has admitted kissing a schoolboy and lying next to him partially clothed in bed.

Bernadette Smith, 35, from Gill Park in Denny, said the "sexual activity" took place with the 17-year-old boy while he was a pupil of hers.

Smith, a married mother-of-three, pleaded guilty to the offence at Stirling Sheriff Court.

She was placed on the sex offenders register and granted bail. The case is due to call again on 13 December.

Smith was sacked from her job after allegations emerged that she had been involved in a sexual relationship with a pupil earlier this year. The school cannot be named for legal reasons.

At court in Stirling, she admitted a single charge that, while in a position of trust as the boy's teacher, she engaged in sexual activity with the pupil, kissed him on the mouth and neck and lay beside him on a bed while partially clothed.

The offence took place between 13 and 20 September at a house in Cowie, near Stirling, and at Callander Park in Falkirk.
