Forfar Co-op worker threatened with bottle

A robber threatened a shop assistant with a spirits bottle before stealing a three-figure sum of cash from a Co-op store in Forfar, police have said.

The incident happened on Saturday evening in the store in Dundee Road.

The thief vaulted over the counter and threatened the 25-year-old female member of staff with a bottle, before demanding that she open the till.

Police said no-one was injured but staff were left "extremely distressed" by the robbery.

The male suspect was 6ft tall, wearing a blue hat and scarf, a dark coloured jacket, grey trousers or tracksuit bottoms and red trainers.

He was first seen acting suspiciously in the store at about 21:40, loitering around the shopping aisles and the till area, before leaving and walking away along Dundee Road.

He then re-entered the store minutes later when the incident took place.

A review of CCTV coverage is under way and police are carrying out door-to-door inquiries as part of the investigation.

A forensic examination has also been carried out at the scene.
