Police in Perth are seeking the help of nightclub-goers as part of an investigation into an attack on a taxi driver and two women.

The man assaulted a taxi driver and two female passengers in North Methven Street at about 03:15 on Sunday.

Officers said they believed the man had been in the Loft nightclub prior to the incident.

Anyone who may have witnessed the assault is being asked to contact the police.

Officers said the man launched the attack after being told to get out of the taxi.

Both women suffered injuries during the incident and needed hospital treatment.

The man responsible was described as being in his late twenties, 5ft 6ins tall, of slim build with a slim face with stubble on his chin and short dark hair.

CCTV review

He was wearing a blue short-sleeved shirt, blue denim jeans, and dark shoes.

Officers have been carrying out a review of local CCTV footage and said they were confident that the man responsible had been in the Loft nightclub prior to the incident.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland Tayside Division said: ''There were a number of people in the area at the time of this incident.

"Local nightclubs were emptying and several people were making their way home on foot or by taxi.

"The review of CCTV footage is providing us with some very positive lines of enquiry but we still need anyone who was in the area who may have witnessed the incident, or who may recognise the man responsible, to get in touch with us.''
