Tourist dies after being hit by car in Pitlochry

A 70-year-old Dutch tourist has died after being hit by a car in Pitlochry.

The man, who was on a walking holiday, was trapped underneath the vehicle after being struck close to the Moulin Hotel in Kirkmichael Road shortly before midnight on Saturday.

Firefighters used air bags to lift the car so paramedics could treat the casualty, but despite their efforts he died at the scene.

A 54-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

He is expected to appear at Perth Sheriff Court on Monday. Police appealed for any witnesses to contact them.

A police spokesman said: "The 70-year-old male is believed to have been on a walking holiday in the Pitlochry area.

"Police officers are currently in contact with family members in Holland, who are making arrangements to travel to Scotland to assist officers with their enquiries and to carry out a formal identification".
