Police have confirmed that the body of a man found at the shoreline near Arbroath is that of a missing Royal Marine.

Officers said the body had been identified as 32-year-old Ralph Hebden.

Mr Hebden, who was originally from Liverpool, was last seen at the Morrisons supermarket in Arbroath on 11 March.

It is thought he had intended to go for a run along the town's cliff tops.

Mr Hebden's body was discovered below Arbroath Cliffs on Monday.

His death is not being treated as suspicious and a report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.

His wife Sarah gave birth to the couple's daughter on 22 March.
