The organisers of T in the Park have announced German electronic music pioneers Kraftwerk are to headline this year's festival.

It will be the group's first ever appearance at the Balado event.

Kraftwerk are best known for their hits such as Autobahn and The Model and are currently performing at the Tate Modern gallery in London.

The group joins acts already announced on the bill like Emele Sande, The Script, Two Door Cinema Club and Alt-J.

Paloma Faith, Jake Bugg, Of Monsters and Men and Azealia Banks are also scheduled to perform.

The Balado performance will be the German band's only UK festival appearance.

Festival director Geoff Ellis said: "Kraftwerk are a truly seminal band. Their revolutionary sound altered the face of contemporary music and paved the way for so many artists across so many musical genres.

"They are a massively influential group and an incredible live act, and we are hugely excited to welcome Kraftwerk to T in the Park for the first time this July, in what will be a very special moment in our 20th year celebrations."

Tickets for this year's event, which takes place on 11-14 July, will go on sale next week.
