A9 motorist dies after head-on tanker crash near Dunkeld

A man thought to be in his 20s has died after his car was involved in a head-on crash with a tanker on the A9.

The accident happened north of Jubilee Bridge, Dunkeld, at about 20:30 on Tuesday evening.

The man was travelling north in a blue Renault Clio when it was in collision with a blue articulated tanker operated by McPhersons of Aberlour, which was heading in the opposite direction.

Tayside Police said the 44-year-old lorry driver was uninjured.

The road was closed for several hours, but bad weather meant diversions put in place for small vehicles were unsuitable for lorries and buses, which were held on the A9 until the road was re-opened.

Officers have appealed for any witnesses to contact them.

The dead man has still to be formally identified and his name will not be released until next of kin are informed.
