NHS Tayside has closed a ward at a Dundee hospital following a suspected outbreak of the winter vomiting virus.

Ward 5 has been shut to new admissions following several cases of vomiting and diarrhoea.

The health board said they believed the outbreak was as a result of norovirus, more commonly known as the winter vomiting bug.

An NHS Tayside spokesperson added that infection control measures had been put in place.

The health board said the decision to close the ward to new patients was a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of the virus.

The hospital asked anyone who might be feeling unwell or experiencing vomiting and diarrhoea not to visit friends and family members at Ninewells for at least 48 hours after they are free of all symptoms.
