A date has been announced for the formal creation of a new "super" college to serve Tayside.

Dundee and Angus Colleges will officially merge on 1 November, 2013.

Officially known as 'Vesting Day' it will see the creation of a new, as yet unnamed, institution serving around 35,000 students in Dundee city, the Angus burghs and surrounding areas.

The colleges announced their intention to merge in September and a partnership set up to lead the merger.

The Tayside Partnership Board (TPB) has delegated authority from the boards of both colleges in relation to specific matters.

'Rigorous planning'

The TPB has already met and agreed to appoint a team from the City of Glasgow Merger Centre as project managers, who will work with staff and students at both Angus and Dundee Colleges in preparation of the merger.

Kish Srinivasan, TPB chairman, said: "There is a lot of rigorous planning and preparation involved from now on.

"The overarching aim of this merger is to enhance the provision available to both employers and learners in the region and we will undertake extensive consultation with students, staff and external stakeholders in order to get their views."
