Man dies after being hit by car

Crosshouse crash The crash happened near Kilmarnock on Friday evening

A male pedestrian has died after being hit by a car near Kilmarnock in East Ayrshire on Friday night.

The man was walking on the B7081 Irvine Road in Crosshouse at about 20:50, when he was struck by the Rover car. He died at the scene.

Strathclyde Police said the man's family had been informed but they were not releasing his name at this time.

The 47-year-old driver of the Rover, who was uninjured, stopped and helped police with their inquiries.

Officers are appealing for witnesses.
