Dundee man George Young jailed for four years for child abuse

A 66-year-old Dundee man convicted of abusing two girls despite trying to blame his dead brother has been jailed for four years.

George Young was sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow after being found guilty of three charges of indecency against the children.

The offences, in the 1970s and 80s, occurred while Young was supposedly baby-sitting the victims.

Judge Rita Rae QC called the crimes "a gross breach of trust."

It emerged after the trial in August that the 66-year-old had previous convictions for sexual offences.

"Considerable impact"

Judge Rae QC told Young: "The abuse of children is one of the most serious that can come before a court. This was a gross breach of trust."

She also said it was clear the crimes had a "considerable impact" on the victims.

Ex-quarry worker Young had denied during his trial that he had known the girls and that the allegations were "all lies".

He was told that both named him as the culprit for the abuse, but he replied: "It will be Norman my brother as we both look alike."

Young claimed that in 2005 his dying sibling had told him that he had used his name when he was "mucking about" with the girls.
