Family tributes to dead teenager Phillip Collins

Relatives of a teenager who died after falling while walking his dog have paid tribute to him.

Phillip Collins, 14, slipped as he climbed over a fence at Perth Racecourse and hit his head on the ground last Friday.

He had been on holiday with his family at the Scone caravan site when he went for a walk with his dog Rover.

Despite the efforts of ambulance crews, Phillip was declared dead at the scene of the accident.

His parents, Marie Love and Allan Collins, were said to have been "absolutely devastated" by the accident.

Iain McDonald, who knows the family, said: "It is horrible and Marie is in another world just now - she is absolutely devastated.

"The family were having their tea when Phillip was out walking Rover, a blue roan cocker spaniel.

"He went over one of the fences at Perth Racecourse, which is beside the caravan site, and I understand he was still holding onto the lead when the fatal accident occurred."

'Tragic accident'

The teenager, from Stenhousemuir, near Falkirk, had autism.

He was found by a passer-by who heard Rover barking.

Mr McDonald said the teenager had a "great relationship" with his pet dog, and "showed a lot of care."

Sam Morsehead, general manager at Perth Racecourse, expressed his sadness.

He said: "We are all absolutely devastated at this tragic accident and have huge sympathy for Phillip's family."

A police spokesperson said: "Tayside Police can confirm they attended the sudden death of a 14-year-old boy at 4.20pm on Friday 3 August, near to a campsite in Scone.

"There are no suspicious circumstances and, as with all sudden deaths, a report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal."
