Steven Cooney died after fire at Dundee flats

Hilltown fire Firefighters had to deal with a severe blaze on the top floor of the block of flats

A man who died after a fierce fire at a block of flats in Dundee in the early hours of Thursday morning has been named as Steven Cooney.

Tayside Fire and Rescue Service was called to the fire in the top-floor flat of a four-storey block in the city's Hilltown area at about 00:30.

Firefighters pulled the 40-year-old from the property but paramedics were unable to resuscitate him.

An investigation has begun into the cause of the blaze.

There are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances.
