A sound and light show held in a Perthshire forest has been named as Scotland's top event.

The Enchanted Forest, held annually in Faskally Woods at Pitlochry, won the overall prize at the Event Management Grand Prix awards.

It was also named as best cultural event and won a commendation for best large event.

The forest show beat off competition from Glasgow Film Festival and Edinburgh's Hogmanay among others.

Derek Allan, chairman of The Enchanted Forest, said: "This is real recognition of what a community can do when they put their minds to it.

"It is testimony to the hard work and dedication of the many people in Highland Perthshire who have grasped, with both hands, the organisation of such a major event and have added their own touch of excellence to the Enchanted Forest.

"I am extremely proud of both the event and our team."

The forest show was founded in 2002 and attracted more than 20,000 visitors to the area in 2010.

It was run by the Forestry Commission and Perth and Kinross Countryside Trust until last year, when the Highland Perthshire Community Interest Company took over.

This year's event from 7 to 29 October is to be held in the Explorers Garden in Pitlochry for the first time.
