Man dies after collapsing in Dundee chemical tank

A man has died after collapsing in the chemical tank he was working in at an industrial estate in Dundee.

Firefighters set up an exclusion zone around the tank after arriving at the scene at the Dryburgh estate.

Two colleagues who attempted to assist the man where also taken to hospital for checks, but police said there were no concerns for their health.

The victim, believed to be in his 30s, collapsed at about 13:45 at Diamond Wheels Technologies on Baird Avenue.

The business repairs and refurbishes alloy wheels.

When ambulance staff arrived, colleagues were attempting to revive the man, who has not been formally identified. He was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, but did not survive.

'Decontamination'

Four Tayside Fire and Rescue appliances were sent to the estate, including a heavy rescue unit.

A Tayside Police spokesman said: "Tayside Fire and Rescue made the scene safe and specialist hazardous material officers identified the chemicals involved.

"All hazardous material information was passed to partner agencies to assist in decontamination and first aid.

"Enquiries are now underway to establish the full set of circumstances surrounding the incident."

The force said that the Health and Safety Executive has been informed.
