Man arrested over 'Neil Lennon sectarian hate' websites

The police unit set-up to crackdown on sectarian behaviour arrest a man in relation to hate messages posted about Celtic manager Neil Lennon

A 24-year-old man from Callander has been arrested in connection with alleged internet sectarian offences.

He was detained as part of a joint operation between Strathclyde and Central Scotland police forces and the Football Co-ordination Unit (FoCUS).

It is understood he is alleged to have created internet sites where hate messages against Celtic manager Neil Lennon were posted last season.

The man is due appear at Stirling Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

Supt David Brand, head of FoCUS, said: "I would advise anyone who has posted messages which are likely or intended to threaten violence or cause fear or alarm to any person to remove them immediately.

"We are not only targeting those who post messages on the internet but those who seek to create internet hate sites.

"Please be warned, if you do post hatred over the internet, you may not be arrested today, but we will be paying you a visit some time in the future."
