Body found in Kilsyth canal named as missing patient

The body of a man found in a North Lanarkshire canal on Tuesday has been formally identified as a patient missing from Bonnybridge Hospital.

Sandy Gerrard, 69, originally from Aberdeenshire, was last seen on 10 May, walking along the A803 near Kilsyth.

His body was found by members of the public in the Forth and Clyde canal at Auchenstarry on Tuesday afternoon.

Central Scotland Police said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

Mr Gerrard's next of kin have been informed and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.
