Man in court over T in the Park rape

A 28-year-old man has appeared in court in connection with an alleged abduction and rape at the T in the Park music festival.

Finlay Barber, from Peebles, appeared in private at Perth Sheriff Court on a petition alleging he raped an 18-year-old woman at the festival.

The incident is alleged to have happened on 11 or 12 July.

He made no plea or declaration and the case was continued for further examination.

Mr Barber is alleged to have befriended the teenager at the event in Balado, Perth and Kinross, before he and another person are said to have abducted her.

He is then accused of leading her to the festival car park before forcing her into a van.

Bail condition

When she attempted to escape, he forced her to return to the vehicle, the petition alleges.

He is then accused of detaining the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, against her will and abducting her with intent to rape her.

A second charge alleges that he also assaulted the teenager and restrained her before forcibly removing her clothing, sexually assaulting and then raping her.

The case was continued for further examination by Sheriff Michael Fletcher.

The Crown did not oppose bail and Mr Barber was freed with the additional bail condition that he does not approach the alleged victim.
