A Galashiels man who downloaded indecent images of children on his home computer has avoided a jail sentence.

Jason Thomson, 40, had admitted two charges of possessing child pornography between September 2012 and July 2013.

Selkirk Sheriff Court was told that 164 indecent images and 28 movies were found on his computer - the majority of them in the least serious category.

He was ordered to carry out 150 hours unpaid work and placed on the sex offenders register for three years.

Thomson had been warned at a previous hearing that he could face a custodial sentence.
