Organisers expect a "huge" turnout of livestock at the biggest event on the Borders agricultural calendar which gets under way on Friday.

The Border Union Show takes place at Springwood Park just outside Kelso.

Border Union Agricultural Society (BUAS) secretary Ron Wilson said entries were strong across all categories.

He added that trade stand sections were almost full for the show which runs on Friday and Saturday.

Last year the event included special celebrations for the 200th anniversary of the BUAS.

However, Mr Wilson said this summer's show should also be an impressive one.

"We have got a huge entry of stock and we have literally four metres - because somebody called off - left in the trade stands," he said.

"We are really bulging this year."

He said entries were particularly strong in the sheep and cattle sections which were hosting national championships this year.
