Strike threat at Scottish Borders Housing Association

Maintenance workers at Scottish Borders Housing Association are to be balloted on industrial action.

It follows a failure to reach agreement between SBHA and the Unite union this week over terms and conditions.

The social landlord wants the working day to begin "on site" at 08:00 but it currently starts when staff leave home at that time under an agreement reached after regional depots were cut.

The ballot on industrial action will open on Monday.

According to the union, the plans would add about two-and-a-half unpaid hours to the working week - and it accuses SBHA of showing "no respect" to staff.

The housing association has said the proposals are standard industry practice.
