Co-op eyes up Earlston supermarket

The Co-operative Group has unveiled plans for a new supermarket at a filling station site in the Borders.

The future of the facility on Melrose Road in Earlston had been thrown into doubt after receivers were appointed at owners J Rutherford.

The Co-op has now stepped in with a proposal to create a supermarket and retain the petrol pumps.

The supermarket chain has submitted a change-of-use application for the site.

If successful it will create a new retail outlet with car parking spaces for 32 vehicles.
