Lockerbie Gala Day arrests 'disappointing', say police

Lockerbie High Street Trouble flared in Lockerbie High Street early on Saturday evening

Police have criticised drunken youths who they say marred annual gala day celebrations in Lockerbie.

About 13 arrests were made when trouble flared in the town's High Street early on Saturday evening.

A number of people have already appeared in court charged with public order offences.

Ch Insp Steven Lowther said it was "extremely disappointing" that a special day had been spoiled by youths "well under the influence of alcohol".

Extra officers were drafted into the town to assist local police and restore order and a number of them suffered minor injuries.

Police said they would review the incidents along with the gala day organisers to ensure there was no repeat at future events.

Inquiries into the incidents on Saturday were said to be continuing and others involved in disturbances are expected to be the subject of further reports to the procurator fiscal.
