Thieves have made off with a "large quantity" of cigarettes in a break-in at a Co-op in the Scottish Borders.

The incident happened at the store on High Street in West Linton some time between midnight and 02:00 on Friday.

Police have urged anyone who remembers seeing suspicious activity around the shop to contact them.

Insp Tony Hodges said such incidents were "unusual" in the village and appealed for information "regardless of how insignificant" it might seem.

"We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have seen people hanging around the High Street area in the early hours of Friday morning and anyone who may have seen a blue saloon car in the village at that time," he said.
