Crash leaves lorry driver dead

A lorry driver has died after his vehicle was involved in a collision with another lorry in the Scottish Borders.

The accident happened at about 15:30 on Thursday on the A7, near Torwoodlee Golf Club on the outskirts of Galashiels. Both vehicles were travelling south at the time.

The 54-year-old driver, whose tractor unit was pulling a low loader trailer, sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed for several hours while an investigation was carried out.

Insp John Reid of Police Scotland said: "Tragically, this incident has resulted in the driver suffering fatal injury and we are in the process of establishing exactly what happened.

"I would urge motorists who were on the road at the time and witnessed the collision to contact police immediately.

"Similarly, anyone with any further information relevant to this investigation is also asked to get in touch."
