Police are appealing for information to help trace a Borders man who has gone missing after boarding a flight to Spain more than six weeks ago.

Peter James Smith, 29, from Selkirk, was last seen leaving the UK on a flight from East Midlands airport to Fuerteventura on 14 January.

He has not been heard from since and his family is "increasingly concerned".

Police said he may have returned to the UK but his relatives were unaware if that was the case.

He was due to fly back on 13 February.

Mr Smith is described as white, 5ft 6in tall, of slim build, with blue eyes, short light brown hair and with a Scottish Borders accent.

Insp Carol Wood from Police Scotland said: "Police are concerned for Peter and keen to find out his whereabouts.

"Anyone who believes they have seen Peter, or who has information that can assist our investigation is asked to contact police immediately on 101 or 0131 440 6861."
