A teacher at a Borders secondary school has been reported for alleged inappropriate conduct towards a 16-year-old female pupil.

The 28-year-old man was arrested by police and had been due to appear at Selkirk Sheriff Court last week.

However, after examining reports, the procurator fiscal released the man from custody for further inquiries.

It is understood he remains suspended from his duties at Earlston High School while the investigation is ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed a 28-year-old man had been charged and reported to the procurator fiscal for alleged inappropriate conduct against a 16-year-old female pupil.

The Crown Office said: "The procurator fiscal at Selkirk has received a report relating to alleged incidents involving a 28-year-old man that occurred in St Boswells in December 2013 and January 2014.

"After full and careful consideration of the facts and circumstances of the report, the accused was liberated from custody pending further investigation and did not appear in court."
