Edinburgh Woollen Mill boss Philip Day on careless driving charge

The owner of the Edinburgh Woollen Mill chain has appeared in court in Dumfries on a careless driving charge.

Philip Day, 47, of Edmond Castle, near Carlisle, admitted driving at speeds of up to 83mph and overtaking when it was unsafe to do so on the A7 near Canonbie in February.

His counsel requested a delay in any further hearing, due to Day's business commitments in the Middle East.

Sheriff George Jamieson fixed a date of 14 February.
