A timber firm has been fined £44,000 after admitting breaching safety regulations when a worker got trapped clearing a log haul machine.
Hunter Wilson Ltd, of the Sawmill, Rigg, near Gretna, pled guilty to the offence in March 2011.
Steven Cairns, 28, was severely hurt in the incident, suffering injuries including a broken pelvis.
Dumfries Sheriff Court heard nobody witnessed the accident but workmates ran to help when they heard him scream.
Mr Cairns was airlifted to hospital for treatment.
The firm admitted failing to take measures to stop the movement of any dangerous parts of machinery before any person entered the danger zones in the areas beneath the log haul parts.
The court heard that the company, part of the Clifford Jones Timber group, had co-operated fully to introduce further safety measures since the accident.
