Enzieholm fatal crash site safety appeal

A call is being made for road safety measures to be put in place at the scene of a fatal crash as part of works to improve timber routes in Eskdale.

Councillor Dennis Male wants to see them included in an upgrade of the C-class Enzieholm Road.

He said it was vital that steps were taken to prevent a repeat of an accident in October 2009.

Local hotelier John Reid was killed when his car plunged down a steep embankment in the area.

"It's a very, very bad bend," said Mr Male.

"It really needs to be addressed properly so we never see another accident like that happen again.

"In fact that whole road surface there just seems to break up regularly and it really needs proper treatment."

Dumfries and Galloway has a number of dedicated timber routes across the region.

They are roads which the industry has agreed to use in return for the council helping to ensure they are of sufficient standard for such traffic.
