Southerness leisure centre replacement planned after blaze

Fire fighters at the Mermaid leisure complex at Southerness The complex was destroyed in the blaze which needed 30 firefighters to bring it under control

Plans have been submitted to build a replacement for a south of Scotland leisure centre destroyed by fire.

More than 30 firefighters were needed to put out the blaze, which affected the Lighthouse Leisure site at Southerness, in July.

The holiday village houses dozens of caravans but nobody was injured in the incident.

The owners have submitted proposals to Dumfries and Galloway Council to build replacement facilities.

The plans include provision for a swimming pool, dance floor, lounge and bar areas.
