Woman dies after Peebles crash

An elderly woman has died in hospital after a car she was travelling in crashed in the Scottish Borders.

The Honda Civic struck a wall in the Greenside area of Peebles at about 11:00.

The male driver had to be cut free from the wreckage and suffered various fractures and injuries which are not thought to be life-threatening.

The couple were taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where the woman succumbed to her injuries.

Police Scotland said the A72 road through Peebles was closed and diversions in operation while a full accident investigation took place.
