Queen of the South increase capacity for Rangers cup tie

Queen of the South have secured safety clearance to reopen a section of their Palmerston Park ground in time for their Ramsdens Cup tie with Rangers.

Nearly 900 fans will be able to use the long-redundant Terregles Street end, taking the capacity to 7,620.

The two teams will play their quarter-final in Dumfries on 17 September.

They met in the same competition last year, with Queen of the South winning on penalties en route to lifting the trophy.

As well as increasing the ground capacity, work is also under way to improve viewing in the main stand.

Old windows at both ends of the structure are being replaced in order to minimise the number of seats with a restricted view.
