Borders to Edinburgh rail bridge 'deliberately damaged'

Police are appealing for information after a bridge being built on the Borders to Edinburgh railway was deliberately damaged.

The incident happened some time between the early hours of Sunday and 08:45 on Monday in the Fountainhall area.

A vehicle was driven repeatedly at scaffolding under the bridge located between Torquhan and Bankhouse farms - known locally as Torquhan South.

British Transport Police want to speak to anyone who was in the area.

Det Con Andy Egan said: "I suspect that an agricultural or construction vehicle would have been driven at the bridge, causing the damage.

"The bridge is adjacent to the main A7 road through the Scottish Borders and is visible to drivers and passengers using this route.

"If you saw anything suspicious or have any information regarding the identity of those involved please contact BTP."
