Galashiels flood prevention work gets under way

Work is getting under way in an effort to reduce the risk of flooding in Galashiels.

The town has been affected several times in recent years and Scottish Borders Council has agreed steps to tackle the problem.

The project should reduce the risk of flooding to central Galashiels and Netherdale from the Gala Water.

The council said the work would be carried out as quickly as possible but there would be some disruption.
