Six-vehicle Soutra Hill smash on A68 injures 10 people

A total of 10 people were injured in a six-vehicle crash on the A68 road at Soutra Hill.

The collision took place at about 17:10 on Monday, close to the boundary between the Borders and Midlothian.

Reports suggested 16 people had been hurt but police said five people had been taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and five treated at the scene.

The driver and passenger of a Honda Civic involved in the accident suffered serious injuries.

Sgt Roger Park said: "In the immediate aftermath of the collision a number of motorists stopped to provide assistance to the injured, and I would like to thank them for their help, and for remaining at the scene in order to assist responding officers.

"The road was closed for a number of hours while inquiries took place at the scene, and an investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing.

"At this time I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision, or who thinks they have any relevant information that would assist our inquiries, to contact Police Scotland."
