Teenager 'struck by lorry' near Newton Stewart dies

A teenager believed to have been struck by a lorry in Dumfries and Galloway in the early hours of Saturday morning has died.

Kieran Currie, 19, appeared to have been hit by an eastbound lorry on the A75 Gretna to Stranraer road.

The accident happened at about 02:40 on Saturday near Calgow Farm, about a mile east of Newton Stewart.

Police have appealed for the occupants of a blue car which stopped at the scene to contact them.

Mr Currie was taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary with serious head injuries but later died.

Officers want to speak to the occupants of a small blue car which stopped at the scene a short time after the accident and offered assistance

A Police Scotland spokesman added: "Despite the late time of this collision it is believed that a number of vehicles would have been in the area both before and after the incident.

"Police have already stopped and spoken with a number of lorry drivers, but we are appealing for anyone who has not already been spoken to who was in the area to contact them."
