Man injured after being hit by lorry near Newton Stewart

A man believed to have been struck by a lorry in Dumfries and Galloway is being treated in hospital for serious head injuries.

Police said the 19-year-old appeared to have been hit by an eastbound lorry on the A75 Gretna to Stranraer road.

The accident happened at about 02:40 near Calgow Farm, about a mile east of Newton Stewart.

The road was closed for several hours, with a 77-mile diversion in place. It has since reopened.

The man is being treated at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: "Despite the late time of this collision it is believed that a number of vehicles would have been in the area both before and after the incident.

"Police have already stopped and spoken with a number of lorry drivers, but we are appealing for anyone who has not already been spoken to who was in the area to contact them."
