Police probe Dumfries jewellery theft

Police have launched an investigation after more than £10,000 in cash and jewellery worth about £40,000 were stolen from a house in Dumfries.

The incident happened some time between Friday and Sunday at the property in the town's Janefield Avenue.

A Police Scotland spokesman said the jewellery consisted of diamonds, opals, gold and silver pieces.

Anybody who saw anything suspicious in the area over the weekend has been asked to come forward with information.
