Police hunt 'samurai sword' tree hacker in Dumfries

Police in Dumfries have said they want to trace a man spotted hacking at trees with a samurai-style sword.

The knifeman was seen slashing trees in Mill Green in the town at about 09:00 on Friday.

Officers said a similar incident was reported in January. On that occasion the tree involved was so badly damaged it had to be cut down.

The suspect is described as 30-35 years old, 5ft 6ins, of Chinese appearance and was wearing a baseball-style cap.
