World curling finals volunteers sought

The organisers of two world curling championships being held at Dumfries Ice Bowl next year are urging local people to get involved as volunteers.

The world mixed doubles and world senior events take place in the town in April 2014.

An open day is being held at the Ice Bowl on Saturday to explain the wide range of volunteering roles available.

Stuart Biggar of Dumfries and Galloway Council said he hoped the finals could encourage more people to try the sport.

More than 30 senior teams from around the world are expected to compete, along with a similar number of mixed doubles teams, between April 22 and 29.

It will be the first time that Scotland will have hosted the mixed event, which began in 2008 in Vierumaki, Finland.

However, Scotland has previously staged the world seniors - in 2005 at Greenacres.
