Town ban for Hawick 'axe handle assault' accused

A man has been banned from entering a town in the Scottish Borders after being accused of assault.

Roy Chilcott of Kelso, 44, appeared from custody at an Easter Saturday sitting of Selkirk Sheriff Court.

He is charged with striking Christopher Hartegen on the head with an axe handle or similar implement.

Mr Chilcott pleaded not guilty to the charges against him and was released on bail, with a condition that he does not enter the town of Hawick.

The charges follow a disturbance in Hawick's Hillend Drive on Thursday evening.

Chilcott's sister Tracy Laidlaw, 46, and a 17-year-old woman are charged with assaulting Kirsty Parker during the same disturbance.

They also pleaded not and were released on bail.
