Ronald Smart obscene film cash seized

A newsagent jailed for 11 months for selling obscene films has had £33,000 seized under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

Ronald Smart, 43, of Castle Douglas, was sentenced in July 2011 after he admitted distributing the material from a newsagents in his home town.

A Crown Office statement said it had investigated his income over the six years leading up to his arrest.

It added that the case showed the wide range of offences which could be targeted.
