Ayton to Chirnside road closed after culvert collapses

Heavy rainfall has been blamed for the closure of a route in the Scottish Borders after a culvert collapsed under the road.

Scottish Borders Council will start repair work on the B6355 Ayton to Chirnside road next week.

A diversion route is in place along the A6105 Berwick Road for all traffic.

Environment and infrastructure director Rob Dickson said extremely wet conditions had taken their toll on the region's roads.

"This is a very challenging time but we continue to do all we can to carry out repairs as quickly as is possible," he said.

"We hope to have this road reopened to traffic before the end of next week and would like to thank drivers for their patience in the meantime."
