Ice and snow cause spate of crashes in Dumfries and Galloway

Ice has caused problems on many routes across Dumfries and Galloway

A travel warning has been issued following a spate of weather-related road crashes overnight in south west Scotland.

Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary said conditions remained treacherous in parts of the region.

The force said it was called out to deal with nine road traffic collisions overnight.

Nobody was seriously injured, but there remains a risk from the icy conditions and snow in some areas.

Black ice was said to be affecting routes across the region, with roads in the Machars, the Rhins and the Glenkens worst hit.

There were also reports of ice on the A75 between Glenluce and Newton Stewart.

Snow has been causing problems on the A74(M) between junction 15 Moffat and Junction 16 Johnstonbridge.

Motorists are being urged to slow down and allow extra time for journeys.
