Peebles shop assistant 'shaken' after unprovoked attack

A female shop assistant has been left "very shaken" after an unprovoked attack in a small store in the Borders.

The incident happened at about 16:45 on Tuesday in the Thistle Quilting premises on the High Street in Peebles.

A man entered the shop and assaulted the shop worker before running off in the direction of North Bridge.

He is described as white, in his 40s, of medium build, about 5ft 10in tall and with short, black, greying hair. He was wearing a navy jacket and jeans.

A police spokesperson said: "This appears to have been an unprovoked attack which has left the victim very shaken.

"I would urge anyone who has information in relation to this incident to contact Peebles Police station on 01721 720637 or contact the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 111555."
