Galashiels firm Sykes Global Services creates 50 jobs

A distribution company is creating 50 new jobs by incorporating a call centre at its factory in the Borders.

Sykes Global Services is currently recruiting the staff at its plant in Galashiels, where they will handle inquiries for retail firm Argos.

Senior director Les Torrance described it as a "very exciting development".

The call centre is already up and running in Galashiels but recruitment of the new staff is not expected to be completed until the end of the year.

Mr Torrance said: "The new contact centre in Galashiels will transform our Netherdale operation into a full service unit featuring both call-taking and fulfilment giving an end to end solution for our customers.

"It will be drawing on inherently high-quality labour in the Borders, which we believe will markedly improve the perception of call centres in southern Scotland."

Established more than than 150 years ago as printers McQueen, the Galashiels company was acquired by Florida-based Sykes in 1997 when it principally serviced Adobe's European market.
