Dumfries warning over Sky TV scam

A warning to members of the public being sent Pin-reading machines by people claiming to work for Sky TV has been extended to Dumfries and Galloway.

A pensioner in the Borders town of Earlston was recently conned out of a four-figure sum of money.

Now police have reported a man in Dumfries was affected by the scam.

Callers target people they know to be Sky customers and claim they will be given a refund if they enter their bank account Pin into the reader devices.

Police have said the callers sound "very convincing".

They advised anyone who thought they had been targeted to contact them immediately with information.
